A classic tale of love and hatred tells of the destinies of five beautiful Bennet sisters, whom their mother guides with a firm hand towards a life philosophy according to which a woman is happy only when she marries richly. Only Elizabeth so far successfully resists this model, fully supported by her childlike father. When a single and, above all, wealthy Mr. Bingley takes up residence in a nearby manor, all the Bennets, led by their mother, sense an opportunity for an advantageous marriage. The oldest daughter Jane, a sensitive and beautiful girl, immediately succumbs to Mr. Bingley. Younger Elizabeth attracts his friend Mr. Darcy, who, however, appears to be a great snob and, moreover, apparently has his fingers in the crisis that later disrupts the relationship between Jane and Mr. Bingley. Is it possible to hate and love a person equally passionately?
